I now work at a grocery store. I help customers by bagging their groceries and sometimes, loading them into their car. I LOVE my new job so much! I am NEVER tired of it! Before working at the grocery store, I worked at WACOSA Thriftworks, which is a program that trains people with disabilities for the workforce.
I just got 50 of my new books in the mail, and I'm so excited. My new book is called Charley's First Adventure. It's the second book of my children's book series, The Adventures of Charley McChooChoo.
The reason I waited to do Charley's First Adventure second is because my sister Natalie wanted my first book to be about overcoming disabilities. It's called Danny and Whistling Engine. She promoted this book for me during her year as Miss Minnesota. Thank you to my parents, Dave and Cory, and my sister Natalie for all their support with this book. I would also like to thank my cousin Lochlin for illustrating such wonderful pictures. You can buy the book on the Barnes and Noble website or on Amazon. I hope you enjoy it! Natalie and I spoke at the Celebration of Abilities in St. Cloud. I also did a book signing. A big crowd came just for us. They said it was the biggest group they'd ever had! A few people said I inspired them. That made me happy. I was glad to meet everyone. I also ran into my friend John from WACOSA. That was fun! Take a look at some pictures! The audience thought Natalie and I were funny!
I recently finished a program called "Opening Doors" at WACOSA in Waite Park, Minnesota. It's a program for people like me who have Asperger's Syndrome and want to get a job. We talked about our strengths, weaknesses, social skills, and stress management. At the end of the class, we went on a trip to Camp Friendship. I brought my sister Natalie. It was so fun! We did group activities like the fish game, rock climbing, and a building blocks listening game. We also went on a boat ride. My favorite part was the hay ride at the end of the day. My friend John played his guitar, which sounded relaxing. Here are some pictures.
On Saturday, May 4, I had a book signing at ThriftWorks in Waite Park, MN. ThriftWorks is the name of a thrift store at an organization called WACOSA. WACOSA is a non-profit organization that helps people with disabilities get jobs. In fact, WACOSA is going to help me get ready for the world of employment.
I recently enrolled in their Opening Doors course, which will teach me the skills I need to get a job. It is specifically for people with Asperger's, but WACOSA helps people with all kinds of disabilities. I am still inexperienced, but I am hoping this course will help me be successful. On the first day of class, we watched the movie Temple Grandin. It is based on the real life of Temple Grandin, a successful woman who has Autism. After the movie, we talked about her strengths, her weaknesses and the things she had to work on to be successful in life. I met a lot of people in class and they all have the same disability as me. It makes me feel happy because I like to meet other people with Asperger's as well. One last thing...my sister Natalie is helping me work on my next Charley McChooChoo book, so be sure to look out for it in the future! It is called Charley's First Adventure. Today my sister Natalie and I spoke at the Arc United Conference on Autism in Brainerd, MN. I had a lot of fun. I'd like to think the audience was laughing with us, not at us. We had them ROTFL (rolling on the floor laughing) with our jokes. I was happy because a lot of people were excited to buy my book and get my autograph. I would like to thank Arc United for inviting us. I can't wait to do another book signing! Thanks for stopping by my website! Natalie came with me to my first book signing at the Autism Society of Minnesota conference. It was really fun! Check out the cool promo video my sister made for my first book. It's called Danny and the Whistling Engine. It's the very first book of my children's book series, The Adventures of Charley McChooChoo. I hope you like it! |
